Bengt Martin Wickström, född 27 april i Finspång, är en svensk målare och skulptör, bosatt och verksam i Stockholm.
Martin Wickström utbildade sig på Gerlesborgsskolan – och därefter vid Kungliga Konsthögskolan –[1]
Biografi
[redigera | redigera wikitext]Martin Wickström växte upp i Finspång. Efter utbildning på Gerlesborgsskolan från , som präglades av ett envetet modellmålande bortom tidens konstdiskussion och politiska konst, antogs Wickström till Kungliga Konsthögskolan i Stockholm.[2] Här kommer han i kontakt med den samtida konsten och inspirerades av den visuella energi som präglade det konstnärliga klimatet i början av talet. Under handledning av sin lärare Olle Kåks kom Wickström här att göra avgörande förändringar i sin konst. Han börjar arbeta med installationer som tenderar att alltmer tränga ut från den plana väggen och ta det fysiska rummet i besittning. Samtidigt inspirerades Wickström av Öyvind Fahlström och skapar fragmentaristiska målningar som knyter an till popkonsten och dess föregångare.[3] Wickström är representerad vid bland annat Göteborgs konstmuseum[4] och Norrköpings Konstmuseum[5].

From the breathtaking play of light across building facades to dizzying mountain passes, Martin Wickström combines paintings, models and ready-mades in intricate installations into presentations ranging from a personal family album to the international political arena. In Wickström’s work, psychoanalysis and semiotics interact in the documentary and private life. Previously existing cultural material – documentary photographs, portraits of film stars from days gone by, or fragments from a Spiderman cartoon – mingle with personal experiences and elements from recent history. Everything is skillfully combined in a balancing act between pop art and Swedish melancholy. Something seductive emerges from Wickström’s process: in the coloring, highlights, and brushwork. At times the shimmering sediment of the enchanting painting is shattered by sawed-off and white-painted shapes, brutally screwed to the surface of the painting – a silhouette of a residential complex or a simple office chair.
